Russian Spokeswoman Rejects New US Measures against Cuba

MOSCOW, Russia. – Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, described as absolutely wild restrictions the measures imposed by the United States against Cuba, related to the   biopharmaceutical industry.

As the Cuban Embassy in Moscow reported, the diplomat denounced the restrictions, which bring with them interruptions in the supply of raw materials and the production process, and affect thousands of domestic and foreign patients receiving medicines from Cuban pharmaceutical companies.

Zakharova also referred to the constant pressure on Cuban doctors working abroad and said: “Once again, innocent people are suffering the measures proclaimed for democracy, so we strongly reject these and other measures to strengthen the U.S. blockade against Cuba.”

The official added there is no doubt that the imposition of sanctions on Cuba would strike ordinary citizens, depriving them of fundamental rights and freedoms, which Washington defends so much.
