CARACAS, Venezuela. – Venezuelan lawyers confirmed this Tuesday the constitutional nature of the Constituent National Assembly´s decision to assume several functions of the Parliament in contempt, to guarantee peace in Venezuela.

The main spokesperson for the Patriotic Lawyers National Movement, Durga Ochoa, said the decision is based on Article 349 of the Constitution, and it will help preserving the State’s powers in matters of security and justice.

Ochoa recalled that it does not represent the dissolution of the legislative, which is in contempt of the institutional order, because the Constituent National Assembly possesses a legitimacy given by the support of more than eight million people in the election of its members.

The official reiterated that the pretension of those running the legislative power is to achieve a military intervention in Venezuela, to safeguard its economic interests to the detriment of the people´s welfare.
