Havana, Cuba.-The 26th edition of the Pan-American Congress of Schools of Hospitality, Catering and Tourism (Conpeht) concluded today after a successful few days exploring training in the sector.

Held from October 24th to the 28th and attended by some 500 delegates from around 20 countries, the meeting highlighted the influence of community in the travel industry and the rise of this influence in Cuba.

Delegates visited the community of Las Terrazas and the beach resort of Varadero; they also witnessed a gastronomy competition and listened to talks and presentations.

Miriam Julieta Rendon, the director of the Cuban school Formatur, praised the work of the Congress, however she stated that Cuba has a long road ahead with respect to the training of personnel for the sector.

Formatur has 16 schools across Cuba, which train specialists and directors linked to the recreation sector.

Each year, these school prepare more than 8,000 students through courses designed with the Cuban Ministry of Tourism.

This year, the Conpeth celebrates its 26th anniversary. It is also attended by schools from Spain, Canada and the United States. It was founded by Mexican expert Miguel Torruco, who is its honorable president for life.
