Havana, Cuba.- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated on Wednesday the Matanceros, champions of the II Elite League of Cuban Baseball (LEB).

“Thank you Crocodiles. Another page of glory for the baseball epic of Matanzas,” the Cuban leader wrote in his profile on the social network X.

The day before, and on its premises at the ‘Victoria de Girón’ stadium, the team of the so-called Athens of Cuba defeated the Cazadores de Artemisa 12-5, and became the champion of the second edition of the LEB.

The Matanzas crocodiles were crowned for the first time on their home soil, as all the province’s previous successes were celebrated away from home.

In another message on the same platform, Diaz-Canel wrote: “Our recognition also to the Artemiseños, who were no small rivals. The hunters gave the fans of the red land the greatest sporting joy in its history and most importantly: they make them dream.”
