Havana, Cuba.- Inequality is currently one of the main obstacles to the growth of nations, said Cuban professor Maria del Carmen Zabala on Tuesday in Havana.

It is not possible to reach true equity without advancing economic policies along with the social ones, stressed Zabala at the opening day of the 24th Model United Nations in Havana, HAVMUN 2019.

Zabala considered the need to develop universal plans vital and highlighted the role of the State in such issues because it is a relevant actor.

We have to see development as a whole and each strategy held must have an integral character, said the professor in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana.

There are several types of inequality beyond the economic and social, such as class, gender, personal attributes, race or ethnicity, as well as access to education, health, citizen participation, among others, she explained.

The 24th Model United Nations of Havana, HAVMUN 2019 will be extended until Friday, and is carried out with the collaboration of the Cuban Association of United Nations and the University Student Federation of the University of Havana.
