Havana, Cuba.- The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) is exhibiting on Wednesday three animal and vegetable health products during the 6th International Congress on Animal Production in Havana.

As part of the associated fair of the event, held at the Convention Palace, we showed delegates from 16 countries the Gavac vaccine against ticks in cattle, Tatiana Gonzalez, coordinator of CIGB agricultural products, told Prensa Latina.

We also exhibited the immunogen Porvac against swine cholera and the biological nematicide Hebernem, for the protection of crops, Gonzalez added.

Gabav controls infestations progressively and acts against parasites resistant to chemical clawworms, and Porvac is an injection whose studies and test phases allowed its effectiveness to be verified.

On the other hand, HeberNem is used to control nematode populations in plantations and is applied to roots, she stated. It is an ecological compound which reduces the frequency of chemical use, Gonzalez expressed.

Referring to use of these biotechnology products outside the island, Gonzalez affirmed that Porvac is supplied only in the country, unlike Gavac which is already in Venezuela, Costa Rica, Colombia, Nicaragua, Panama, among other countries, and regarding the HeberNem, several nations are interested in its application in their territories, she explained.
