Havana, Cuba.- The international colloquium ”Havana and the Sea in 500 Years” will session in Havana next week to discuss the privileges of the strategic position of the port of the Cuban capital, local media reported on Tuesday.

The head of Cuba’s Hemingway International Sailing Club, Jose Diaz, told local radio station Radio Reloj that the colloquium will also address the importance of the port in maritime traffic and its system of fortifications.

According to Diaz, the event will be held at the Palacio del Segundo Cabo, headquarters of the Center for the Interpretation of Cultural Relations Cuba-Europe, on September 5 and 6.

More than 30 presentations will be made at the event, which will address the challenges of caring for the environment and decontaminating the bay, the report added.

The event is also hosted by the Cuban Academy of History, the Institute of History and the Office of the Historian of Havana.
