Havana, Cuba.- The 2nd Congress of the Cuban Society of Plastic Surgery and Caumatology (SCCPC) began today in the presence of Cuban specialists and Latin American guests, who will exchange experiences and update knowledge on the issue.

The Hermanos Ameijeiras hospital will host the scientific event until September 7, in which what is done in Cuba in three aspects of plastic surgery: aesthetic surgery, reconstructive surgery (includes deformities), and comprehensive care of burned patient, will be exposed.

Safety in plastic surgery is one of the main issues of the event, with which one works frequently in the region due to the complexity of this kind of surgeries, SCCPC president Rafael Rodriguez said.

The implants, one of the most demanded surgeries today, as well as lipotransfer and oncologic plastic surgery, will also focus debates.

Under the auspices of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health and the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Plastic Surgery, the congress is called to promote strategies facing the current challenges of the specialty.

According to Rodriguez, this event will be a propitious occasion to show the current state of Cuban aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, a pioneer in the continent.
