fidel-villaclara-memorialSanta Clara, Cuba.-Under the cheers of ”I am Fidel” and ”Long Live Fidel”, the ”Commander Ernesto Che Guevara” Revolution Square in this city has received the caravan that carries the ashes of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Thousands of people, mostly young students, gathered from some hours before on the grounds of the square to pay posthumous tribute to the Commander-in-Chief until early today.

The tribute includes an artistic gala and a vigil where 30 young people, carrying an equal number of snapshots of the leader, evoked his figure only some few meters from where the eternal flame that reminds the Heroic Guerrilla and his fallen comrades in Bolivia remains.

We will be staying here all night long with Fidel and Che, with the commitment to continue maintaining the Revolution, Julio Lima Corzo, first Secretary of the Party in Villa Clara, stated.

The remembrance will be extended until early December 1st, when the caravan resumes its route to the East, following the reverse path to that marked by the Rebel Army as it passed to the

West in 1959.

Fidel Castro arrived in Santa Clara victorious in early hours of January 6, 1959, where, in front of a tide of people, he said: ‘We no longer came to speak to the people, but we came to the people to speak to us’.
