HAVANA, Cuba. – From now on, the powerful Hurricane Irma is a potential danger to our country, directly or indirectly, meteorologist Elier Pila said.
Although the meteor, with category five on the Saffir-Simpson scale, could take a further trajectory to the north, it will directly or indirectly affect some portion of the Cuban territory from Friday morning, in eastern areas of the country.
The specialist explained the forecast models suggest a movement to the west-northwest, moving towards the Lesser Antilles, but begin to disagree later within a period of more than 72 hours.
Pila noted Hurricane Irma would be at a point very close to the north coast or the Cuban eastern region on Friday afternoon and depending on proximity we would have a more or less direct impact.
An Active Season
The current cyclonic season, which will extend until November, has been very active, with the formation of several tropical systems.
Meteorologist Elier Pila explained that, in addition to the powerful Hurricane Irma, there are currently two other active tropical organisms, with the formation on Tuesday morning of Tropical Storm Joseph, in the Central Atlantic, and the emergence of a tropical depression In the Gulf of Mexico.
Of course Irma is the most important hurricane for the Caribbean area and Cuba, as it has remained as a category five on the Saffir-Simpson scale, which makes it the fifth most intense registered in this area of the Atlantic.
The hurricane threatening us now is also the most intense one in shaping and developing on Atlantic waters, along with the cyclone of 1935 that devastated Florida.
