Day of cuban Science in Havana.

HAVANA, Cuba. – With the imprint of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the scientific community in Havana celebrated the provincial act for the Day of Science, established on January 15, because hat day of 1960 the historical leader of the Revolution affirmed: “The future of our homeland must necessarily be a future of men of science, of men of thought.”

During the event, attended by Mercedes Lopez Acea, First Secretary of the Communist Party in Havana, personalities from the sector and entities with contributions in the socio-economic development of the Cuban capital were recognized.

Adela Haber, delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in Havana, highlighted the results of the more than two thousand research projects carried out last year.

On the environmental management for sustainable development she referred to the implementation of the technological package in the recovery and maintenance of the beaches in the east, as well as the diagnosis of woodland in public spaces.

Current results

In the provincial act for the Day of Cuban Science, presided over by Mercedes Lopez Acea, it was highlighted the high scientific potential of the territory.

About the results in health, the delegate of Science, Technology and Environment in the capital said that the introduction of new biotechnology products such as Heberferon for the treatment of basal cell carcinomas in the skin is consolidated.

The mitigation of greenhouse-effect emissions and the preparation of protocols for evaluating coral reefs to the effects of climate change were also achievements of the Havana scientific community in 2017.

As part of the day, 19 scientific, technological and organizational results received the Provincial Innovation Award.
