Guantanamo Bay Naval Base is ilegally occupating a part of the Cuban territory.

Guantanamo, Cuba. – As a scenario for crucial claims against interventionist policies of the great powers, the eastern province of Guantánamo will be the venue of the Fifth International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases since this Thursday.

About 200 researchers and activists from some 25 countries will speak at the biennial meeting to repudiate foreign military bases. The meeting also strengthen the expressions of solidarity with Cuba.

The Fifth International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases will be held at the University of Medical Sciences in the city of Guantánamo until next May 6, and its opening will have the intervention of the president of the Cuban Movement for Peace, Silvio Silversmith Yrola.

About the seminar, Maria do Socorro Gomes, representative of the World Peace Council, pointed out that peace is seriously threatened around the world and there is only one way to save concord: the promotion of a culture of unity among peoples.
