Elaboration of draft Constitution progresses

HAVANA, Cuba. – The Commission created to prepare the draft Constitution advances in its work, headed by its President, the first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raul Castro Ruz.

During this week, deep and wide debates have been held, with the purpose that the Magna Carta be an instrument in the hands of the people to strengthen the Revolution.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and the second Secretary of the Party, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura attended the meetings, where also they were emphasized the reinforcement of the Socialist institutionality, the decisive role of the Constitution in the legal system and the need for the law of laws to correspond with the Cuban economic, political and social reality.

In the drafting of its contents it has been proposed to incorporate rights and duties with the aim of consolidating the relationship between the State and citizens.

The Commission considered the relevance of improving the State’s system of organs, so as to encourage s greater linkage with the people and their participation more effectively in the management of people’s power.

As it has already been reported, after the elaboration of the preliminary draft, it will be put to the attention of the National Assembly, before the process of popular consultation that converts the people into constituent, and then be submitted to referendum.
