HAVANA, Cuba.- Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, headed a government meeting with a teleconference with the main authorities of the Cuban central provinces.

In the meeting they analyzed the complex situation created by the intense rains affecting the country during the last days, especially to the central and western regions.

The purpose of the emergent meeting was to evaluate the situation created by Alberto subtropical Storm, to assess the effects and take a group of measures that make recovering possible as soon as conditions allow.

The second Chief of the Civil Defense National General Staff, Colonel Luis Angel Macareno Veliz, made a partial summary of the affectations until this Tuesday at 5 a.m.

On the Way to Recovery

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Alfredo Lopez, said that the hydrocarbon collection pools of Cienfuegos oil refinery no longer dump into the bay, and the floating barriers remain unfolded.

He also reported that until 6 a.m. this Tuesday there were more than forty thousand homes without electricity in the center of Cuba, and added there are all the forces, means and resources to restore the fluid.

Villa Clara was the most affected province in terms of electricity service. Other authorities attending the government meeting reported on their respective sectors, and exchanged in videoconference with the main leaders of the central provinces.

Experts assess the environmental consequences, and Matanzas province also reinforces the measures to deal with damages and protect the population.
