Cuba gains space as a tourist destination in the Caribbean.

HAVANA, Cuba. – If in the 90´s of the last century Cuba occupied the penultimate place in the Caribbean in reception of tourists, now it is only surpassed by the Dominican Republic, which evidences the development of its potentials, Professor Paolo Spadoni highlighted in Havana.

In the seminar titled Journalism and Tourism that meets at the Jose Marti International Institute of Journalism, in Havana, the professor at the University of Augusta, Georgia analyzed the impact of the measures taken by the Governments of Obama and Trump on Cuban tourism.

Spadoni said that despite Washington’s policy, from 2014 to 2017 there was a substantial growth of visitors from the United States, mostly aboard cruise ships.

The professor estimated that if the trips of Americans to Cuba as tourists were allowed freely -not licensed as now- they could reach three million and a half of visitors per year.
