CARACAS, Venezuela. – With the aim of celebrating the demands achieved in recent years as free and public education, Venezuelan youth lead a march in occasion of the sixty years of the Day of the University Student.

The demonstration, departing from Venezuela Square and culminating in Miraflores Palace, will pay tribute to students who six decades ago declared a general strike against Marcos Perez Jimenez´s dictatorship.

The Minister for Education, Elias Jaua, called to join to the significance of the historical date to commemorate the struggle for independence, sovereignty and freedom.

In his speech he also recalled the relevance of that November 21, in which the university front declared itself to prevent Perez Jimenez from perpetuating indefinitely in power.
