WASHINGOTN, USA.- The restrictions imposed by the Trump Administration to limit Americans’ travel to Cuba are rejected in one of America’s main scenarios: the federal Congress.

Americans can only go to the Island under one of the twelve categories authorized by the Government, which is considered a violation of their right to travel freely.

In a speech in the plenary of the Senate, Democrat Patrick Leahy condemned the new travel restrictions, which he described as embarrassing. What kind of government tells its citizens where they can travel or where they can spend their money? he asked.

As part of that intervention, Leahy anticipated he would present the bill titled Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act to the new Congress, after introducing a similar proposal in May 2017.
