Rome, Italy.- Pope Francis sent a letter of condolences for Fidel Castro”s death to the President of the Councils of State and of Ministers, Raul Castro, the Vatican informed on Saturday.

‘When receiving the sad news about the death of your dear brother, His Excellency, Mr. Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, ex president of the Councils of the State and of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, I express my sentiments of sorrow to your Excellency,’ the Holy Pontiff said.

Jorge Bergoglio also conveyed his condolences to the other relatives of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, ‘as well as the Government and the people of that beloved nation’.

‘At the same time, I offer my prayers to the Lord for his rest and entrust the entire Cuban people to the maternal intercession of Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre, the patron saint of that country’.

The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution passed away on Friday night at the age of 90.
