ASUNCION, Paraguay.- The President of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, resigned this Monday to his office, through a letter sent to the House of Senators of the Congress.

In his Twitter account, Cartes reported that he resigns to continue serving the country from the Senate of the nation, fulfilling the popular will deposited at the ballot box.

Cartes has served as president of Paraguay since 2013, but he was elected senator in the elections of last April 22, after he was authorized to be nominated by the Supreme Court of Justice.

Last Friday, the High Court of Electoral Justice, after recognizing the results of these elections, proclaimed Cartes as senator, and now the next step after his resignation us the study by the Senate of the letter and accepting or not his resignation.
