Immigrant children in Italy.

ROMA, Italy.- On occasion of the World Children’s Day, influential Italian environmental organization Legambiente urged the government to the immediate approval of the new Citizenship Act.

The group called for this afternoon a demonstration in Montecitorio Square, seat of the Chamber of Deputies that approved in 2015 the project providing the granting of the Italian citizenship to the children of immigrants resident in that country.

Since then the initiative is in the Senate, where it faces the opposition of the Northern League and the weakening of the front in its favor, led by the ruling Democratic Party.

In the call to the demonstration, Legambiente said there are multiple reasons for justice, solidarity, recognition of rights and humanitarian spirit that make the project indispensable for the future of Italy.
