Caracas, Venezuela.- The National Constituent Assembly (ANC) will tour the entire Venezuelan territory from today until Friday to strengthen contacts with the people and render accounts on its first year.

ANC Speaker Diosdado Cabello said in a recent speech that the constituent lawmakers will visit all regions of the country to render accounts to the people and gather their proposals to strengthen that body.

At a ceremony to celebrate the first anniversary of the ANC, Cabello ratified that the forum will continue to struggle with its ‘insurgent, popular and indigenous’ nature against the right wing’s destabilizing actions in the economic sector.

According to the socialist leader Eduardo Piñate, in a year marked by aggressive campaigns promoted by the national and international right wing against Venezuela, the plenipotentiary body became the bastion to defend sovereignty.

One of the ANC’s major achievements in its first year was the consolidation of peace and political stability, the labor minister told Agencia Venezolana de Noticias in an interview.

In addition to the social mission of drawing up a new Constitution of the Republic, the ANC, which was elected by more than eight million Venezuelans, played a key role in the approval of economic resolutions, Piñate added.

In light of the violent events promoted by radical opposition sectors from April to July 2017, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called the activation of the constituent power on May 1 of that year.

On July 30, 2017, elections were held to elect more than 500 lawmakers of the ANC, which was installed officially on August 4 at the Federal Legislative Palace.
