Colombian Government and Students to Discuss

BOGOTA, Colombia.- In order to find solutions to the current crisis of higher education due to insufficient funding, representatives of the Colombian Government, the student movement and teachers’ unions agreed this Tuesday to establish a dialogue table.

The purpose of this negotiating mechanism will be to meet and respond to the joint requests of students and teachers expressed in the national mobilizations this month, the third of them takes place this Wednesday.

In the meantime, the political reform project in Colombia continues its legislative path in the House of Representatives after it was approved on Monday in the Senate plenary of the Republic.

The initiative proposes the mainly state funding of legislative elections, closed-list of parties, gender parity in nominations and the limitation of three periods in public corporations.
