corazon 2Havana, Cuba.-An international workshop on pulmonary vascular disease is taking place today in this capital in the presence of more than 250 specialists from Cuba, the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy.

Diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of the disease, lung transplantation, heart-lung transplantation, measures of functional evaluation of patients and their rehabilitation, are among the issues of the program.

The lecture ‘Current knowledge of the pathogenesis of pulmonary vascular remodeling’, by American, Kurt Stenmark, as well as ‘Use of exercise in the assessment of dyspnea and pulmonary vascular disease’, by his fellow-countrymen, David Systrom, are also some of the proposals of the workshop.

His Cuban colleague, Eduardo Rivas, president of the Cuban Society of this specialty, will speak on ‘Physical training and rehabilitation in pulmonary arterial hypertension’.

The event takes place at the theater of the ‘Hermanos Ameijeiras’ Clinical-Surgical Hospital, in Havana.

Considered to be one of the leading causes of death in Cuba and the world, the pulmonary vascular disease leads to disabilities and can diminish the functions and quality of life of those affected people.
