Havana, Cuba.-Cuba, with 30 years of experience in Immunology, has nowadays important results in its health sector, considered equal to that of the most-developed nations.

Among these achievements are the standardization of the alpha-fetoprotein test in pregnant women and the control of congenital HIV-AIDS and thyroid affections, according to the Director of the Immunoassay Center, Jose Luis Fernandez.

Today the Cuban immunoassay covers not only neonatal screening, blood certification and epidemiological surveillance programs, but since 1982 it has developed reagents and technologies for the early diagnosis of different types of cancer, he added.

In an interview published by Cubadebate digital media, the specialist stressed that the three decades of experience of his institution have improved the quality of life of millions of Cuban families.

‘Cuba was the world´s second nation to conduct alpha-fetoprotein research for all pregnant women, which has benefited over four million pregnant women to date,’ he added.
