Havana, Cuba.- The World Association of Psychiatry (WAP) called Thursday for the integration of the specialty at international level, as part of the 9th National Congress of Psychiatry (PsiqCuba) 2019 with the assistance of national and foreign delegates.

It is very important to integrate psychiatry with health and never separate it, told Prensa Latina the WPA president, Australian Helen Herrman, when she gave answers about the working projects of the organization she leads.

‘We also work for the development of community mental health, with the aim of ensuring patients quality of life of patients,’ she added.

No less important is the work we do to supervise psychiatrists trainings in accordance with established standards, and to respect the human rights of all people, she added.

Herrman received the condition of Member of Honor of the Cuban Society of Psychiatry (SCP) Wednesday, together with the experts Antonio Geraldo da Silva (Brazil), Nestor Selman, Luis Caballero and Javier Samper, from Spain.

The Executive expressed its gratitude for such high recognition, which also honors the WAP.

She also took the opportunity to highlight the progress made by psychiatry in Cuba and the quality of training of its specialists.

The hospitals I have been visited in this first visit to Cuba, I have appreciated the respect for the people dignity and their privacy, in addition, the patients reflect their satisfaction for the service they receive, she stated.

PsiqCuba 2019 is being held in paralell with the 7th Pan American Congress of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, the Latin American Symposium of the World Association of Dual Pathology and the 2nd International Congress of Psychotherapy.
