HAVANA, Cuba.- The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, assessed the experiences obtained during the period of recovery after the tornado that punished this capital on January 27.

This type of sudden meteorological event must be incorporated into disaster reduction plans, Diaz-Canel said. It is something new in its way of manifesting itself and in the same way we must be attentive to intense rains, because these can bring us complications, he pointed out.

We must improve processes such as the evaluation of damages, procedures and the sales points of construction materials before any contingency, the head of State remarked according to a report of the night broadcast of the National Television News.

The Cuban President praised the students’ call, the contribution of the artists and the role of the press; he also called to promote the use of social networks in cases like this.

If we are not on social networks at times like that, we will have them full of misinformation and arguments manipulated by the enemy, Diaz-Canel warned.

Diaz-Canel reported that the experiences in meteorological matters of recent times will be taken into account in the next Meteor Exercise, scheduled to May 18 and 19.
