Organized by the Martí Association of Cubans Residing in Panama (AMCRP), a motorcade travelled along the main thoroughfares of the Panamanian capital on Sunday to demand an end to the United States blockade against the island.
The mobilization also included members of solidarity organizations, social collectives, labor unions, students and Indigenous groups, among others.
According to the organizers, this recurring event — typically held on the last Sunday of each month — will feature Cuban flags and slogans against the blockade. The route will pass by the Faculty of Administration at the University of Panama and traverse central avenues of the city, concluding with a demonstration against this hostile policy at the Cuban embassy.
Recently, AMCRP president Roberto León explained to Prensa Latina the significance of this initiative, coming just three days before the United Nations General Assembly vote on a resolution—presented by Havana—demanding the lifting of the blockade. The vote is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th and Wednesday, the 28th.
According to official figures, the damage inflicted upon Cuba by the blockade between March 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026, amounted to $8.0833 billion (USD) at current prices.
Cuban authorities maintain that the impact of this policy was exacerbated following Executive Order 14380—issued on January 29 by U.S. President Donald Trump—as well as subsequent measures that, according to Havana, further intensify economic restrictions and negatively affect the population. The day before, the AMCRP issued a new statement denouncing recent remarks by the U.S. president and Senator Marco Rubio, which it characterized as threats against Cuba and attempts at destabilization.
In a communiqué, the organization questioned Trump’s assertions regarding the potential passage of warships near the island, as well as Rubio’s call for establishing discreet collaboration with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to promote change within the Caribbean nation.
The AMCRP further denounced alleged covert operations, media campaigns, and subversive actions aimed at undermining Cuba’s stability, and expressed concern over reports regarding the creation of a secret CIA task force for the island—referred to as “Project Genesis.”
The statement asserts that these actions are part of a policy of pressure which, in the organization’s view, seeks to weaken Cuban sovereignty and the will of its people.
