Camaguey, Cuba.-With the participation of specialists from the Pan American area, the University of Camaguey is ready for the start of the International Conference for Family and Society, to be held in Camaguey, from June 5 to 7.

In the frame of scientific forum CYTDES 2017, the participants from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, United States and Cuba will be able to debate on different topics related to economy, human, rural and urban development, people’s education, gender violence, power and legislation.

Doctor Maribel Almaguer, president of the Organizing Committee, assured that in this edition, topics referring to public health, social development, science and technology, race affairs, youth, culture, sexuality and public policies will also be discussed.

Almaguer told reporters from Prensa Latina that ‘this type of events is an opportunity to make reflections on different aspects with a gender approach, aspects being of vital importance, very necessary nowadays, since the gender approach covers all the processes being developed at global and regional level,’ she said.

The event will also discuss on the thoughts by Cuban Revolution historical leader Fidel Castro about women, their rights and their role in the society, a space to spread a campaign called ‘Eres Mas’ (You Are Something Else) for the stop to gender violence.

The Eres Mas campaign is developed by the Oscar Arnulfo Romero Group of Reflection and Solidarity.

Among the master conferneces to be taught, there is one by US specialist Sheryl L. Lutjens, someone who has studied aspects about Cuban women and now, she will try to speak about the perspectives of the relations between Cuba and the United States, which is one of the aspects with a greatest interest in the political agenda.

The Environmental Bases Project for Local Food Sustainability (BASAL) of the European Union is sponsoring the Conference, expecting to support and contribute to the social and economic development of Cuba.
