Geociencias-2017Havana, Cuba.-Debate sessions, workshops and exhibitions of the 7th Cuban Earth Science Convention are beginning today in this capital, to link this knowledge with society and sustainable development.

The Exhibition of Products, New Technologies and Services for Geosciences, Geoexpo 2017, as well as congresses on Geology, Mining, Geophysics, Informatics, Oil and Gas, will be held in parallel during the four days of the event.

According to the official website, there will be other spaces to discuss on geological risks, coastal processes and seismicity. The 3rd Workshop Prospecting, exploitation and processing of gold and another on geodiversity, heritage and geotourism, are also on the list.

The organizers insist that the study of geological hazards is a core issue for the Caribbean region, as earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, erosion, among others, have hit hard on the region’s sustainable development possibilities.

Geosciences 2017, as the event is also called, will be attended by Latin American researchers from Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Haiti. The United States and Canada are participating from North America.

Europe will be present with specialists from Spain, France, Poland, Italy and Turkey and Africa will be represented by experts from Angola.

The event, taking place at the Havana’s Conference Center, will run until April 7th and is organized by the Cuban Society of Geology.
