2017 Advocacy International Congress

HAVANA, Cuba. – Exchanging with high scientific rigor on current legal challenges, having as its axis the management and resolution of disputes, is the goal of the 2017 Advocacy International Congress, Ariel Mantecon, president of the National Organization of Collective Law Offices said.

At the inauguration of the meeting, chaired by Homero Acosta, Secretary of State Council, Mantecon added that while national realities generate specific forms and legal models in each country, there is a common substrate identifying us and gives rise to the exchange of experiences.

The keynote speech titled The Reform of Criminal Justice in Latin America and the speech titled The Protection to Consumer in the conflicts of the Civil Law, among others, marked the first day of 2017 Advocacy.

About 900 specialists attend the meeting, among them ninety foreigners from eighteen countries.

Jurists: Key in Economic Updating

Dr. Johana Odriozola Guitar, legal director of the Ministry of Economy and Planning, said it is necessary to adapt right to the changes made, with the principle of always ensuring the application of justice for all citizens.

In her lecture titled The Updating of the Economic Model. Legal Challenges, she explained the role of law has to be taken to its rightful place, with no reductionist or myopic visions, which only conceive the lawyer as a mere norm and a policy instrument.

Odriozola added the purpose of jurists in Cuba is to consolidate the socialist and democratic State by strengthening the popular participation in all transformations.
