unescoParis, France.-Unesco today sent its congratulations to the Cuban people and authorities on the 58th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, celebrated on January 1st.

The letter expresses the wish that in the new year ties that have always existed between Cuba and Unesco would be strengthened and highlights that the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the links between Havana and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) will be celebrated in 2017.

According to a statement from the Cuban embassy to Unesco, based in Paris, the anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year with various activities.

The events scheduled will allow Havana’s achievements within Unesco’s areas of competence to be celebrated.

The statement adds, ‘The essential role of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in the promotion and achievement of the goals reached in these areas will be present – without doubt – in each of the activities that take place.’

The text also states that the legacy and example of the Commander will be renewed every day in a new generations of Cubans, who will continue to work for the prosperous and sustainable development of the country and the defense of this sovereign, independent, socialist and democratic nation.
