To delimit the future status of the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, after the British exit from the European Union, or Brexit, is key to the separation agreement.
Michel Barnier, chief negotiator of the Union in the discussions with London on the Brexit, said during a joint session of the Irish Parliament that the European bloc would try to prevent a strict border between this country and the northern region of the island, which is part of the United Kingdom.
If severe border constraints difficult communications between the two jurisdictions are imposed, that will damage the economic relations between them, and it could affect peace in Northern Ireland.
Another matter of crucial importance in the initial stage of the negotiations is the departure bill the United Kingdom should paid in fulfilment of its acquired commitments.
