Beirut, Lebanon.-Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Cuban First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina reviewed here the state of bilateral relations in several fields.

Hariri met with Medina and Cuban Attaché Raul Madrigal at the Grand Serail (the venue of the Council of Ministers) in Beirut, where they discussed several issues of common interest and the political, social and economic situations in their countries.

The meeting between Medina and the head of the Lebanese executive was the last official event during the Cuban official’s two-day visit to Lebanon to further boost relations and cooperation.

‘It was a fruitful visit,’ Medina told Prensa Latina at the government’s headquarters shortly after meeting Hariri to discuss what he described as ‘a promising moment in relations’.

Before the meeting with the prime minister, the Cuban diplomat had lunch with representatives, mostly young people, of the Lebanese-Cuban Council of Business People to analyze the opportunities for investments and joint ventures in Cuba.

The other contacts held here on Wednesday were fruitful as well, particularly the meetings with the Lebanese head of State, Michel Aoun, in the Baabda Palace, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, in his official residence of Ain El-Tineh.

Aoun expressed satisfaction with relations between Havana and Beirut, and favored developing cooperation in several fields. He repeated his country’s support for Cuba’s struggle to have the U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade lifted.

Medina and his delegation were also received by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, with whom he signed an agreement on the exemption of visas for the holders of diplomatic, official, special and services passports.

The agreement will facilitate exchange and contacts between the two countries, in addition to simplifying the procedures for officials, business people and other authorities to travel, diplomatic sources told Prensa Latina.

Bassil expressed interest in Cuba’s economic situation and lauded the good level of bilateral ties, issues that were discussed by the Cuban deputy foreign minister during his official talks with the secretary general of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, Charbel Wehbe.

At all meetings held by the Cuban official, his hosts expressed their will to promote more contacts between the two countries and peoples, and to strengthen friendship and coordination in the international arena.

Marcelino Medina, who concluded here a tour that also took him to Algeria and the Democratic Arab Saharawi Republic, also met with other business people and representatives of Lebanese and Palestinian political parties and social movements, as well as activists of Cuba solidarity organizations.
