Havana, Cuba.- Sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the Days of Solidarity with the People of Puerto Rico begin in Havana this Monday and will run until Friday.
According to a notification from ICAP, during the next few days the Grito de Lares (September 23, 1868) will be remembered, and tribute will be paid to General Juan Rius Rivera, on the centenary of his death.
Ceremonies are also scheduled to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the death of the leader Juan Mari Bras and the death of independence fighter Filiberto Ojeda, murdered on September 23, 2005.
In addition, the work of the Cuba Solidarity Committee in Puerto Rico will be recognized, in preparation for the 32nd anniversary of its founding on September 18.
With the participation of several members of the National Hostosian Independence Movement of Puerto Rico, the program includes activities in Havana, Pinar del Río and Villa Clara, provinces of western and central Cuba.
The actions to support the cause of the Puerto Rican people are part of the Day for Peace program, against the Blockade and Terrorism, which began last September 4 in Cuba. This Day will extend until October 29 and 30, when the United Nations will consider the draft resolution against the United States blockade of the island.
