Havana, Cuba.- Cuban Vice-President Miguel Diaz Canel thanked Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu for his country”s donations to contribute to the recovery from the damage caused by Hurricane Irma.

According to Granma newspaper, among the topics discussed by the officials was the promotion of relations between the two governments and peoples, based on the historic ties that unite both nations.

They also analyzed the potentialities to expand and deepen bilateral economic, commercial and financial relations, which will contribute to the implementation of strategic projects for Cuba’s economic development, the newspaper added.

The Indian minister is heading an important delegation of business people who are participating in the 25th International Fair of Havana, which opened on Sunday.

The first vice-president of the Councils of State and of Ministers expressed Cuba’s gratitude for the donations of medicines, tractors and agricultural tools made by the Indian government, which will contribute to the recovery from the damage caused by Hurricane Irma, he said.

That aid ratifies the solidarity and brotherhood of the government and the people of India with the Cuban people, added Diaz Canel, who was accompanied at the meeting by the Cuban minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca.

Minister Prabhu was accompanied by Indian Ambassador to Cuba Tsewang Namgyal.

According to Granma, during his visit, Minister Prabhu will meet with Council of Ministers Vice-President Ricardo Cabrisas and other Cuban leaders.
