alba-cuba1Havana, Cuba.-With a call for unity, organization, and solidarity, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez inaugurated today the 15th Political Council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples” Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).

In his opening speech, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of ratifying the final declaration of the 14th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of ALBA-TCP, held last month in Caracas, Venezuela, which he recalled warns of the risks for the region and is a powerful guide for concerted action.

He also warned of attacks against progressive governments in Latin America, where ‘right-wing parties use the legislative, judicial and media powers as conspiracy platforms, and unscrupulously break the democratic order they used to defend.’

The Cuban Foreign Minister mentioned the case of Venezuela, which faces arbitrary US sanctions against its executive vice president, Tareck El Aissami, and the executive order that declares that South American nation an unusual and extraordinary threat to the security of that Northern power.

He also urged to support the electoral victory of the Citizen Revolution in Ecuador and Nicaragua against ‘the conspiracy of ultra-reactionary mafias within the US Congress.’

ALBA-TCP Political Council is composed of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of each member country and aims at advising the Presidential Council on strategic political issues and presenting proposals on international policy issues for debate in that organization.
