UNITED NATIONS, New York.- The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, met at the UN with his counterparts from Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, and from Iran, Hassan Rohani, as part of his broad agenda of bilateral meetings.

In recent years, Havana and Quito have strengthened relationships and keep cooperation programs in various areas. Besides, the island and Iran strengthened their cooperation in the political arena and international relations, as well as in the field of economic development.

After President Trump intensified hostilities against Iran this year, the ruler of the Persian nation told the Cuban Ambassador in Tehran that they would continue to consolidate ties of friendship with the Caribbean island.

In addition to his meetings with the Presidents of Ecuador and Iran, Diaz-Canel made for the first time an intervention at the UN during the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit.

Broad Work Agenda in New York

According to the list of speakers announced at the United Nations, Diaz-Canel will give a speech in the general debate of the Assembly next Wednesday, when the 58th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s visit to the headquarters of the multilateral agency is fulfilled.

Also on that day, he will make an intervention in the event that commemorates the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

Among the different meetings planned on the agenda of the Cuban head of State, a dialogue is expected with the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and several bilateral meetings with dignitaries from different parts of the world.

As part of the work program, the Cuban President is expected to have some meetings with American businessmen, members of the Cuban community in the United States, and members of the network of solidarity with the island.
