Havana, Cuba.- In barely 24 hours in cyberspace with his account in social network Twitter @DiazCanelB, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, has over 17 thousand followers from different parts of the world.

The eve, the Head of State emitted around 08:00 (local time), his first tweet from the oriental province of Granma, where he was central speaker at the ceremony on the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the island’s independence wars.

After the initial message, he wrote another two, one thanking the support received in Twitter and the second from the province of Pinar del Rio, located 800 kilometers Northeast of Granma, where he traveled in the afternoon to check the recovery work after the damage caused by hurricane Michael.

Presidents of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro and Bolivia, Evo Morales and the Nobel Peace Prize Argentinean Adolfo Perez Esquivel, figured among the internauts who welcomed the Cuban president to the social network.

For its part, the organization Twiplomacy, making annual studies on the presence of world leaders in Twitter, recognized the arrival of the president of the Greater of the Antilles to the social network.

Diaz-Canel had announced in July this year, during the 10th Congress of the Cuban Journalists Union, that before December he would be in Twitter.
