Guatemala claims Cuban medical support for volcano disaster.

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala. – This Sunday, the Guatemalan Minister of Health, Carlos Soto, asked the Cuban State mission in this country the possibility of expanding the group of doctors who are working in the southern Department of Escuintla, affected by the eruption of the Volcano of Fire.

He also expressed the urgency of keeping doctors full-time and reinforcing their composition with different specialties, owing to the sanitary demands in the evacuation centers.

The Cuban Ambassador, Carlos de Cespedes, reiterated the full disposition of the Cuban medical brigade to be with the Guatemalan people, as well as to put their knowledge in a position to alleviate the tragedy that left victims and casualties.

De Cespedes added that Cuban doctors do not ask for special accommodation, but minimum conditions to cope with diseases that after the disaster are beginning to emerge due to the high level of overcrowding, low light and ventilation in some places.
