Havana, Cuba.-The 2016/17 Cuban Sugarcane harvest, which has enough raw material, better equipment, preparation and achieves an industrial performance of eight percent higher than planned, can produce more sugar, according to an official source.
In addition, the Director of Informatics and Analysis of the Sugar Group, Dionis Pérez, told Prensa Latina today, that in operation are already 46 of the 56 mills that will be involved in the campaign.
According to the director, in the small harvest – from November to the end of December – it was achieved the highest production in at least the last 20 years in that period.
The reached volume of the sweetener represents about 12 percent of the entire campaign plan.
Pérez, however, emphasized the importance of raising the level of exploitation of capacities in sugar mills, as the country achieves an average of 70 percent against a 75 percent program. There are plants that exceed the planned index, but others are below.
It is time to produce more sugar, to take advantage of the favorable conditions of the weather as wells the better equipment and resources.
Cuba expects to achieve growth in its sugar production of 12 percent in the current harvest compared to the plan of the previous campaign.
