Camaguey, Cuba.-The central city of Camaguey, in the province with the same name, is ready to open the 7th Festival of Comic Art from July 5th to 8th with the presence of outstanding Cuban comic writers.

The organizing committee of the event, held in cooperation with the Council of Plastic Arts in the province, scheduled activities to boost and recover comics as a proposal for people of all ages.

Specialist Alfredo Fuentes said at a press conference that the varied stories and the approach made by comic books make them one of the most appealing expressions from the sociological point of view, sending significant messages and values.

Fuentes, who will give the opening lecture ‘Graphic novel, the mature age of the comic book’ dedicated to French-speaking countries, said that comic books are seen as something small within child literature, but, on the contrary, they are a milestone for generations of people and a benchmark in times.

The main purpose of the event is to bring back comics to the center of Cuban art, while paying tribute to cartoonist Juan Padron for his 70 birthday.
