Havana, Cuba.-The Harp Quartet of Chicago, United States, will hold two concerts in Cuba along with the local Symphony Orchestra of Amadeo Roldán Conservatory, the Cuban Music Institute reported.

The shows, scheduled for June 2-3, in the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater, will feature the leading ensemble of harps in North America.

According to specialists, it would be the first time in more than 70 years that a Quartet of this instrument performs on the island, where, in addition, a group of this kind has never performed as a soloist with a symphony orchestra.

The quartet has performed in the largest concert halls in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Curtis Institute of Music.

A Cuban composer, Alfredo Rolando Ortiz, wrote for the ensemble the piece Pensamiento (Thinking), in order to make its world premiere in this capital.

From the author himself, the quartet will play Sueño cubano después de la tormenta (Cuban Dream after the Storm) and will propose classics as one of the famous Hungarian Rhapsodies of the composer Franz Liszt, and Danza ritual del fuego (Ritual Fire Dance) by the Spanish Manuel de Falla, both pieces arranged with the purpose of exhibiting the possibilities of the quartet.

In turn, they will perform a Vivaldi concert adapted to four solo harps and orchestra, which this time will lead the Cuban Zenaida Romeu.

The instrumentalists will offer master classes today to local students and tomorrow they will perform at the Cuban Art Factory.
