Havana, Cuba.-The 24th Congress of the Latin American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums (Alpza 2017) will be held from today to June 2nd at the Conference Center in this capital.

According to organizers, the event will bring together professionals involved in the management of wildlife in captivity and promote regional inter-institutional cooperation.

Contributing to the updating and exchange of knowledge that promote animal welfare and the development of educational strategies within institutions, is another of the objectives set out on the official website of the meeting.

The Congress will discuss issues related to the care of land and marine fauna in captivity such as behavior, nutrition, reproduction and health of those species.

Environmental education and biological ethics will also be debated in several workshops, conferences, symposia and round tables at Alpza 2017.

Important results of zoos and aquariums in Latin America, including the surgery to reverse the vasectomy of a lion of a zoo in Chile, will be analyzed during the sessions.

The event will also host an exhibition fair at the Conference Center’s halls, so the institutions can show and promote their products, literature and services.
