Cienaga de Zapata, Matanzas.- The beginning of the 2th International Event on Nature Tourism (Turnat 2019) in this Cuban wetland on Tuesday speaks for the government’s strategy to diversify recreational options.

The meeting is attended by tour operators, travel agents and experts from all over the world, and has become one of the most important of its kind in the country, with international significance.

This edition of Turnat will conclude on September 28 in Cienaga de Zapata (Zapata Wetlands), and will also take place in three western and central Cuban provinces: Matanzas, Cienfuegos and Sancti Spiritus.

Professionals’ expectations are based on the outcomes of the 2017 meeting in eastern Cuba, when they debated issues such as nature, adventure and rural tourism, which will be analyzed at the upcoming meeting.

This year’s participants come from Canada, United States, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Panama, Ecuador and Venezuela, among other countries, in addition to Cuba.

The development of nature, adventure and rural tourism has gained ground in Cuba as a result of the work of the Ecotur travel agency.

Turnat is held every two years in a different place, from western to eastern Cuba.

The first meeting was held in 2000 in Viñales, in Cuba’s westernmost province, Pinar del Rio.
