Havana, Cuba.-Cuba and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) talked here about the implementation of the Regional Program for the confrontation to Climate Change in the 2016-2018 period, an issue of vital importance today for the development of the area.

Resulting of what was agreed during the 7th Summit of the body, held in June in this capital, the implementation of environmental guidelines was verified yesterday by Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, and ACS Secretary General, June Soomer.

Soomer, on a working visit on the island, to which she arrived on Sunday, Sep. 4, and Rodriguez also analyzed the compliance with the commitments agreed in the conclave, according to a note from the official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Saint Lucian diplomat has been the first woman to hold the position of general secretary of ACS. She took office on August 1, replacing Colombian, Alfonso Munera.

She was unanimously elected by the foreign ministers of the Council of Ministers of the regional body during the 7th Summit.

The ACS secretary general is the figure responsible for the development and maintenance of political relations and cooperation with country members and observers, as well as institutional strengthening and cooperation between the bloc and third nations.
