HAVANA, Cuba. – Two diplomats received the rank of Ambassadors and 22 others swore as heads of missions of Cuba abroad, in a ceremony led by President Miguel Diaz-Canel at the Revolution Palace in Havana.

The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ana Teresita Gonzalez, and the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Canada, Josefina Vidal, received the rank of Ambassadors, which is granted for the first time since last September it was decided to deliver that condition in recognition of work in both internal and external service.

This new condition only commits us more to continue working to fulfill the missions entrusted, Vice Minister Gonzalez said excited on behalf of both diplomatics, who expressed their eternal loyalty to the country.

Following the new policy adopted by the Council of State, the rank of Ambassador is separated from the functions of the head of mission of Cuba abroad.

A Renewed Commitment

Speaking on behalf of Cuba’s new heads of missions abroad, diplomat Carina Soto said the confidence deposited makes stronger the commitment to fully comply with the assigned responsibility.

In a brief speech, Soto underlined that despite the generational differences the new appointees are united as children of the victorious Cuban Revolution and a dignified and committed people they will not disappoint.

The first Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelino Medina, highlighted the work of the two diplomats who received the rank of Ambassadors and the tasks ahead of the new heads of Cuban missions abroad.

It is a privilege and an honor to be able to serve the country in whatever task is necessary and to do so on behalf of our people and the state means a great commitment and an important challenge, Medina said.
