Havana, Cuba.- Cuban President Raul Castro attends the constituent session of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly of People”s Power (Parliament) in Havana”s Palacio de Convenciones.

This day, the 605 deputies elected last March 11 by more than seven million Cubans are been sworn in for a period of five years, as established by the Constitution of the Caribbean country.

After the Assembly´s inauguration, the legislators will choose by secret and direct vote to the presidency of the Parliament and to the 31 members of the Council of State, including the president, the first vice-president and the five vice-presidents.

The inauguration of the Ninth Legislature of the National Assembly takes place in the context of the 57th anniversary of the victory of Cuba at Playa Girón on a counterrevolutionary brigade, armed, and trained by the United States.
