Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes Menendez and the Minister of Energy and Mines Alfredo Lopez Valdes visited today the Castellanos Polymetallic Project, located in Santa Lucia, in the Western province of Pinar del Rio.

During his stay, Valdes verified the execution of that plant that will process one million tons of concentrate of lead and zinc a year for the export.

Jose Antonio Vila, general manager of the Mining Company of the Caribbean Ltd., responsible for the Castellanos Polymetallic ¨Project, said the physical construction is at seventy-two percent.

Meanwhile, Ramiro Valdes oriented continuing the timetable of the work, when it is only 50 days for its start-up.

Castellanos travels to the final stretch

Executives of the Castellanos Polymetallic Project, in the northern part of Pinar del Rio, announced today that this plant will begin processing in October the first tons of lead and zinc concentrate destined for the foreign market.

The site is constantly supplied and there are there more than one thousand three hundred workers between workers and contractors, both national and foreign, belonging to entities in charge of the whole assembly.

Experts esteem the giant installation has a value of two hundred seventy million pesos, and they calculate ten years of exploitation.
