HAVANA, Cuba.- An extensive program covering the fifteen municipalities of Havana is deployed to arrive at the 500th anniversary of the founding of San Cristobal de la Habana, on November 16, 2019, with a more beautiful and organized city.
This and other related issues were recently analyzed in a meeting presided over by Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, with the government group to support the Cuban capital.
The group was created in 2012, by agreement of the Council of Ministers and currently it is chaired by Minister of Economy and Planning Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, to support the fulfillment of the economic and social activities corresponding to entities located in Havana province.
Havana in Its Anniversary
Aimed primarily to the economic and social development of the city, as well as to strengthen its identity, the knowledge of its history and the love of its inhabitants, the program began in 2017.
Since then several works with high social impact have been executed to solve some problems accumulated for years in communities and neighborhoods.
Specifically on the collection of solid waste, the President of the Provincial Assembly of People´s Power, Reynaldo Garcia Zapata, reported the capital needs about 12 000 trash containers, of which about 7 000 are domestic production and the rest are in the process of importation.
Later, the President of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power made a detailed exhibition of the program for the 500 years of Havana, whose essential premise is to revive neighborhoods and that the people participate actively.
He listed the works made in hospitals, museums, educational centers, sports institutions, houses, parks, cemeteries, cultural houses, gastronomic establishments, bus stops, agricultural markets and social centers.
Reanimation of the Cuban Capital
The President of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power, Reynaldo Garcia Zapata, emphasized the works will continue gradually, with priority in the problems exposed by electors to their delegates.
In addition, he pointed out that institutions have to watch over the image of their establishments in the main arteries of the city, to transform them and achieve beauty according to the relevance of the anniversary of Havana. He also underlined that the improvement of facilities must be coupled with the quality and good treatment in services.
The Minister of Economy and Planning, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, reiterated the need to ensure the care of the environment.
500th Anniversary of Havana
Mercedes Lopez Acea, First Secretary of the Party in Havana, highlighted the motivation and commitment of university students of the Cuban capital, who have made great proposals to enrich the program for the 500th anniversary of the city.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez emphasized this action materializes the priority posed by Army General Raul Castro Ruz about a government plan dedicated to the capital, because its problems surpass the provincial level.
He pointed out that this should become a method of permanent work and not only because of the closeness of Havana´s anniversary.
