HAVANA, Cuba.- In a meeting before the eighth regular session of the ninth legislature of the National Assembly of People´s Power, Cuba parliamentarians were updated on the country’s hydrologic situation.

Ines Maria Chapman, president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, reported that 28 percent of the country had a deficit in accumulated rains from April to June, and remarked the dams are 42 percent of their capacity.

Among the actions to mitigate the drought´s effects Chapman mentioned dam rehabilitation, increase of hydrometric coverage, as well as continuing the execution of transfers.

The President of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources said that at the end of last year two million cubic meters of water were recovered, a figure still insufficient regarding the constant losses of the liquid.
